India world’s third-largest scrap importer after Turkey and South Korea has witnessed more than a half MnT bulk scrap imports in 2018. As per vessel line up data maintained with SteelMint, Indian bulk scrap imports recorded at 515,121 MT in CY18. Which increased 37% Y-o-Y in 2018 as against 376,600 MT bulk scrap imports recorded during CY17.

As per recent customs data released, South African scrap exports have observed stability since Sept'18. The country exported 37,215 MT ferrous scrap in Oct’18, marginally up 2% M-o-M against 37,215 MT in Oct’18.

SteelMint learned in recent conversation with market participants that Turkey-based steel mills have continued scrap booking at almost steady prices. Steel mills have initiated Feb shipment bookings in recent deals concluded. On increasing deals, price assessment has inched up marginally.

SteelMint learned in recent conversation with market participants that Turkey-based steel mills have resumed scrap booking from the US after almost a six weeks' of silence. US origin HMS 1&2 prices moved down sharply by around USD 49-50/MT as against last the US deal reported on 23rd Nov'18.

SteelMint learned in recent conversation with market participants that local steel prices in Pakistan have stabilized now. Imported scrap prices have edged down in minor trades reported. Buyers seem interested however stand in 'wait and watch' mode in order to have more clarity on global scrap prices with anticipation of further correction in the near term.
