Earlier this week, the vessel shell for the new hot-blast stove #47 for blast furnace #4 at SSAB Oxelösund, Sweden, was erected. The entire vessel shell was fully prefabricated in an off-site workshop and erected in its operating position in a single lift.
This was the first time that such a manufacturing solution was applied to a blast stove.
The erection was smooth thanks careful planning and consideration with SSAB about ground and underground infrastructure in the blast furnace area.
This effort pays off substantially: the execution of all the welding, coating and inspections in the off-site workshop minimizes on-site work and under more difficult circumstances and plant regulations, saving a considerable number of work hours.
This strategy applied by Danieli Corus brings about major efficiencies in terms of supervision, scaffolding and logistics.
The installation of hot blast stove #47 now will be completed at maximum efficiency.
Tokyo Steel, the largest steel scrap consumer in Japan, purchases various types of scrap to feed its electric-arc furnace melting process.
Gerdau contracted Danieli to upgrade its rolling mill #3 in Pindamonhangaba, São Paulo, in order to be able to produce spring steel flat bars. The mill, producing specialty steel round bars, has recently been supplied by Danieli.
Danieli has been awarded a contract by PAO Severstal for the upgrade of plate mill 2800 at Cherepovets (Russia), in order to improve plate surface quality and increase production volume.
Recently Danieli Breda performed the Final Acceptance Tests (FAC) on the new graphite extrusion technology supplied to Graftech Ibérica SL, Navarre, Spain, for the production of the graphite electrodes.
Acerinox, a global stainless steel manufacturing group, contracted Danieli Automation for the electrical and automation revamp of the stainless steel slab caster at Columbus Stainless (Pty) Ltd., Mpumalanga, South Africa.
Tung Ho Steel Vietnam again chose Danieli to upgrade its 600,000-tpy flexible rolling mill in Phu My. Coming four months after the FAC for the new bar and light-section rolling mill, this order consists of an in-line water quenching system for 10- to 43-mm straight rebars.
