President Rouhani: US, Allies Witnessing Failure of Maximum Pressure Policy against Iran

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Washington has now come to realize that its policy of maximum pressure on Tehran has failed, and stressed the need for officials to continue resistance.

"Although the enemies of the Islamic Republic and Iranian people have made no [verbal] acknowledgedment, they have accepted that the strategy of maximum pressure has failed and they need to give up this approach towards the Iranian nation," Rouhani said, addressing a meeting with high-ranking intelligence ministry officials in Tehran on Tuesday.

He hailed the positive outcomes of the strenuous efforts made by the state bodies, three branches of power and the Armed forces to thwart enemies' plots against the Iranian nation, emphasizing the need for continued efforts to make the enemies completely disappointed at its present course of action and strategy.

"Despite the unprecedented difficulties and enmities against the Iranian nation, the major economic indices have improved in the past few months," President Rouhani said.

The Iranian president's remarks came after his First Deputy Eshaq Jahangiri announced earlier today that the US and its allies' plots to bring the country's economy into a collapse had all failed, adding that the conditions were improving.

"The reports and data released by the country's official organizations show that despite the US harsh sanctions and, as they say, the economic war that they have waged against the Iranian nation, the country's economic conditions are moving towards improvement," Jahangiri said, addressing a ceremony in Tehran on Tuesday.

He added that the Americans imagined that Iran's economy will collapse under sanctions and pressures and people will resort to violent acts against the government "but fortunately, we could live through the hard times thanks to the people's resistance and the managers' follow ups".

Jahangiri said data shows that Iran's economy is moving towards positive growth with good capability to create jobs.

Also, last Wednesday, Governor of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) Abdolnasser Hemmati said that the US attempts to bring the country's economy into collapse had all failed and the value of the national currency increased 40%.

"The US and its regional allies had launched a full-scale economic, psychological and propaganda war against Iran with the aim of bringing the country into collapse via economy (last year)," Hemmati wrote on his Instagram page.

He underlined efforts by Supreme Leader, the president and other officials as well as Iranian people's resistance to thwart the enemies' plots, and said, "We could confront one of the most complicated and most unprecedented sanctions and monetary restrictions and return stability and tranquility to the foreign currency market and other markets."

"Today, compared with the last year, the national currency has strengthened 40%, the growth of inflation has been controlled and the dawn of economic growth can be observed clearly," Hemmati said.
