Iran's Minister of Road and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami said that the Republic of Azerbaijan will have access to the Persian Gulf region via the Ardebil-Mianeh railway.
Ardebil governorate has allocated a special budget for the continuation of construction of a railway from Ardebil to the border city of Parsabad so that the railway of the Republic of Azerbaijan will be connected to the railway network of Iran and the Persian Gulf in the near future," Eslami said.
"Railway laying of Ardabil-Mianeh has started from 2019 with a length of 174 km and its executive operations are underway in 12 sections in a timely schedule," he added.
In a relevant development in late July, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev reviewed bilateral relations, stressing the need for implementation of the Rasht-Astara railway.
Rouhani said, “Fortunately, with the efforts of the officials of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan, we are witnessing good, friendly, and developing relations between the two countries in recent years.”
The President also stated that the officials of the two countries can hold consultations via video conference in these situations where face-to-face meetings and travel is hard.
